To succeed as an engineer or to fail as an artist?

There were days when I felt like questioning the point of my existence. There were days when I felt like giving up on pursuing my artistic dream and just sticking to social norms. Today, I talked to some strangers in Prague and asked them whether they would rather succeed as an engineer or fail as an artist.

Darek: “I think engineering can be an interesting job and the unsuccessful artists usually end up cleaning themself.”

Sofie: “I would rather fail as an artist than be successful as an engineer because I think engineering is a profession without soul.”

Nina: “I would rather fail as an artist because I think if you still follow your passion and you do what you do, then you have purpose in life. I don’t think there is a thing as failing as an artist.”

Trọng: “Everyone wants a stable job. I want to grow in my career. I want to work hard to become a successful engineer that people can admire. I want a stable career so I can take care of myself and my family. Being an artist without creating real value or a livelihood doesn’t really make sense. If you want to follow your passion, you still need financial stability.”

Tujog: “There is no reason. I do not think that being an engineer is something for me.”

Virginia: “I want to be successful as an engineer coz I want stability in life.”
